Must Have Art Supplies for a Successful Semester in Art!

Hey, Gang! Welcome to Art. I am so excited for this New Year and new semester.
I can't wait to meet you all. I'm sure you are wondering what Art will look like this semester. First, I would like to share some supplies that we will use throughout the semester. Having options will benefit your overall experience in Art. Some supplies you might already have around the house.

All artists keep sketchbooks! Sketchbooks will be used every day. We will be creating our main 2D art projects and practicing art techniques in our sketchbooks this semester. Sketchbook prompts will also be part of our weekly practice. You can find sketchbooks at a variety of stores like, Dollar Tree or Walmart or Michaels. Sketchbooks are a great way to keep all your artwork in one organized place. It is also a way to see how you are growing and progressing in Art. My personal preference and the sketchbook I recommend the most is Mixed Media paper. It is very durable paper because of its weight and withholds lots of different mediums, including paint.
Pencils, eraser and sharpeners will be the most used materials, aside from our sketchbooks, in Art this semester. Have them handy every school scheduled day. These materials will be useful for contouring, drawing, sketching, and adding value (shading). We all make mistakes and learn new ways to do things. Erasers will be an important tool to erase mistakes and begin again in a new way. Pencils get dull quick, especially since we will be using this material the most. Keep that point sharp with a sharpener.

Color is one of the Elements of Art. We will be learning about the Color Wheel, Color Theory, and color mixing and blending. Having various mediums to add color to compositions help bring visual interest. Colored pencils are used frequently. Markers, like Crayola or Crazy Art are also multifaceted as a watercolor substitute.
Watercolor is fun! There are many uses and techniques that we will be exploring together this semester. Target (my favorite store) has a watercolor palette for less than a dollar!

Sharpies and ink pens will also be used this semester. BIC pens are ballpoint pens to use for ink drawing. Sharpie permanent markers are great for adding dark, crisp, opaque contrast to your compositions. It dries super fast and can be used on pretty much any surface.
You can get one at the Dollar Tree for $1.00!

We are going to be creating every day. Art conversations will be happening FOR SURE every day. Artists, both past and present, Art Movements, Art Techniques and how Art is incorporated into our everyday life are only a few of the topics we will discuss. Cultivating a safe, fun, comfortable, and supportive Art classroom experience is my top priority.
All of the connections for each of these Apps & platforms will be shared with you the first day of face-to-face and remote learning. I am so looking forward to meeting all of you and creating artwork together.
