Modern Day Mucha


Modern Day Mucha is a painting lesson that focuses on the inspiring style of Alphonse Mucha. Students learn about Art Nouveau while closely observing Mucha's most ornate portrait work.  The following images are student examples from my Drawing & Painting class. Modern Day Mucha 

Materials: Watercolor and pen, 18' x 24" watercolor paper

Preparation: Students observe Alphonse Mucha's style of portrait painting; they will select a figure from pop culture, a self-portrait, or a friend's portrait. Students gather a collection of symbols, patterns and color palettes to relate to the subject of their choice. 

Learning Objective: Students will study Art Nouveau and Alphonse Mucha's paintings to gain an understanding of balance, shape, pattern, repetition and decorative composition through painting with watercolor.
