Journal Assignment:
Create a landscape composition that displays temperature.
Elements of Art - line, shape, space, texture.
Principles of Design - unity




Vocabulary

Landscape - visual features of land, usually referring to the aesthetic appeal (ex: urban landscape, rural landscape, seascape, cityscape, etc). View the image above to locate the different parts of a landscape - foreground, middle ground, horizontal line, and the background. 

Composition - placement or arrangement of visual elements (elements of art, i.e. line, shape, color, form, value, texture, space). 

Temperature - in art, temperature refers to the warmth or coolness of colors. Refer to the color theory study we painted together in class. 



Directions

1. Read and understand the above journal assignment and the art vocabulary. 
2. Research and brainstorm different types of landscapes. 
3. Decide what elements and details you want to include in the aesthetic of your composition. 
4. Draw in landscape orientation (horizontal). 
5. What is the best temperature representation for your landscape choice?

  1. Hi Mrs. Brewer, for this landscape drawing, does it have to be in color, or would we just do shading with graphite, charcoal, etc.?

  2. Hello! The prompt states "Journal Assignment (DUE MAR 20) - Create a landscape composition that shows temperature." If you are able to show temperature with graphite or charcoal, go for it!
