COMPOSITION – The placement or arrangement, the putting together of the art elements and the principles of design. 

RULE OF THIRDS – A general guideline for how to create an interesting composition. The composition can be broken down into 2 vertical and 2 horizontal lines, creating 9 equally portioned blocks of space. 

ELEMENTS OF ART – line, shape, color, form, texture, space, value.

PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN – pattern, contrast, emphasis, balance, unity, rhythm, movement.

Students will visually display their understanding of overlapping, scale, and proportion in their composition. Color will be added to create visual interest and to convey value, pattern and form. Each composition should show artistry, craftsmanship, and neatness. The finished work should show care and strong work ethic while reflecting aesthetics and creative effort.
